Streator – The Illinois Department of Public Health has approved the OSF HealthCare Freestanding Emergency Center in Streator to handle an increased number of Advanced Life Support ambulances. The announcement was made during a news conference Friday Morning.
The center will begin accepting those ambulances starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, allowing residents to receive care closer to home.
ALS Ambulances were previously required to take patients to Ottawa. Although, the facility was capable of handling those patients, it was limited by the wording of the law. The company worked with local lawmakers to change the language of the law and remove a statute that limited them to basic life support patients
